Our intent is to build over time a virtual walking tour of Birmingham. How much of it we can put on line depends on time and resources, mostly simply the time to shoot the pictures and process them into panoramas.

We're going to start off the easy way; building a tour of Southside since that's our home and we know the area well. We'll work our way from here down to 10th Ave and then to 5 Points South. After that we'll expand out from there.

We'll try to shoot in sunny weather since that makes the best pictures for panoramas but if the time is available and the weather is overcast, we'll shoot anyway and hope to get replacement images on a sunny day.

We'll also try to shoot some nighttime images at locations where that is appropriate and will better capture the mood of an area.

As the list gets longer we'll have to move to some sort of city map with clickable hotspots on it but for now we'll just list them. We'll develop an easier format as we move along.

Rather than try to pick and choose what we show, we're going to try to do an objective treatment of the areas we shoot. i.e. we'll show the good and the bad. Just because a street or location is not particularly attractive is not reason enough to exclude it. Birmingham is a city that is both ugly and beautiful depending on where you stand and what you choose to see. We'll leave those judgements to the viewer and not impose our own on them.

Help is always appreciated. If you have a digital camera and a tripod and would like to contribute some panoramas (with your own byline) of your area or others of interest please contact me. I'll be glad to explain the process of shooting panoramas to anyone interested.
