Who we are

SPECIAL KIND OF PUBLISHER: Religious Education Press (REP) is a special kind of publisher. Specifically, REP is a small publisher oriented to assigning persons to help others grow religiously, and in the process to grow religiously themselves. Religious Education Press accomplishes this mission by publishing serious and significant books in religious education, religious psychology, pastoral theology, and moral education. We believe that serious and significant books and fundamentally the kind of books which make the most profound difference in an individual's personal religious life.

ORIENTATION: Because REP is consciously geared to the process of helping, we are very customer oriented.

ESTABILISHMENT of REP: This year Religious Education Press is celebrating its silver jubilee, 25 years of service to religion. The company was founded in 1974 by James Michael Lee who ardently desired to supply the nation and the world with the finest possible books in selected areas of religion.

INDEPENDENT PUBLISHER: We are an independent publisher. Thus we are not formally or informally affiliated with any particular church, faith group, or denomination. This provides REP with great freedom which is not always enjoyed by religiously-affiliated publishers.
Notwithstanding, leaders from the whole range of faith groups have not only consistently heaped praise on REP books, but have used them in a wide variety of ways.

ORIGINAL MISSION: As its name denotes, Religious Education Press originally published serious and significant books only in the field of religious education. Some years later James Michael Lee recognized that there was a distinct need for top-quality books in areas closely related to religious education.

WHERE WE ARE NOW: From its modest beginnings, REP has grown into the world's undisputed leading publisher of serious and significant books in religious education.

Nicola Slee, editor of the British Journal of Theological Education writes: "Religious Education Press is the major American publisher of religious education books."

James Reed and Ronnie Prevost in their book A History of Christian Education write: "Religious Education Press has become the most important publisher of religious education books in North America."

National and international authorities in the fields of religious psychology, pastoral theology, and moral education have heaped great praise on the substantive quality of REP books in these fields.
