BIEFF STUDENT VIDEO EXPO a statewide competition for independently produced videos (when applicable), storyboards and scripts by students at the K-12 level.   A separate competition, with different guidelines and regulations open to colleges nationwide, is also sponsored by BIEFF.

METHOD OF SELECTION:

All entries are screened by a volunteer group of educators and media professionals. Finalists will be submitted to a panel of independent judges for selection of videos for awards. Judges will be evaluating style, creativity, continuity, theme development and technical quality. Decisions of the judges are final.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF ENTRY: CATEGORIES K-12

The competition is divided into categories: K-5, 6-8, 9-12 grade levels and BIF Salute. BIF Salute was formed as a category when BIEFF Student Video Expo joined together with the Birmingham International Festival (BIF).  Each year BIF salutes the history, people, and culture and tradition of the chosen country/nation with a variety of educational, cultural and community events.   Videos submitted for this special category may be from any grade level - and may be in any format (educational, documentary, literature, etc.)  Students are encouraged to submit entries on this particular subject, they can however be on any area of interest- comedy, drama, news, documentary, music videos, public service message, instructional, sports or other. 


REQUIRED ELEMENTS

K-5 are encouraged to submit a storyboard (videotape is optional).  Grades 6-8, 9-12, and BIF salute must submit videotape accompanied by a storyboard, script, synopsis, or narrative. If any element is missing, the entry will be disqualified. BIEFF Video Production Guide

PRODUCTION DATES

Videos entered in the competition must have been produced after January 1, of the previous year and received by March 1, of the contest year.

FORMAT

Videos must be submitted on new VHS tape, and recorded in the SP mode. They can be produced on film, but must be dubbed to VHS. Audio must be mixed to both channels.

LENGTH, LANGUAGE AND RIGHTS

Productions must be no longer than 10 minutes. All entries must be in English, or have English subtitles. Entries must include a rights release for promotion use by BIEFF or possible broadcast by Alabama Public Television.

E. ENTRY DEADLINE AND FEES
Entry forms, storyboards, scripts and tapes must be received no later than March 1, of the contest year. All entries must include a $10 non-refundable fee. Make checks payable to: BIEFF
