Alabama Rare Bird Report – Wednesday, April 9, 2008.

 

A BLACK-WHISKERED VIREO was seen at Shell Mound Park on Dauphin Island 4/2-5.  On 4/5 CAVE SWALLOWS were seen on Dauphin Island at the Shell Mounds, Airport, and the east end behind Ft. Gaines.  A GRAY KINGBIRD was seen and heard at the Dauphin Island golf course.  [DeAL 64-B3&4][BGtA p. 6-12][ACBT #43, etc]

 

Several CAVE SWALLOWS were seen last week with other swallows at Ft. Morgan.  [DeAL 64-B4][BGtA p. 23][ACBT #15]

 

Two BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPERS were found 4/8 in a flock of Black-bellied Plover at the sod farm along Baldwin County 12 west of AL 59 near Foley.  [DeAL 63-H7]

 

The Guntersville adult LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL continued 3/29 on the pilings at the south end of the US 431 bridge just north of town.  [DeAL 26-A1][BGtA p. 259][NABT #35]

 

 

The world-famous Hummer/Bird Study Group is banding at Ft. Morgan through April 11.   Visitors are welcome!  Please note:  this banding operation takes place on fort property so expect to pay the standard fort entrance fee.  In the interest of maintaining a positive birder image with those administrating the fort, PLEASE be sure you pay your way!!!
