Congratulations, Bob and Martha!

AOS members Bob and Martha Sargent have been awarded the prestigious W. Kelly Mosley Environmental Award. The award was made on January 23 as part of the program at the AOS Winter Meeting at Joe Wheeler State Park [AL]. The award was presented by Kathy Freeland, Director of the Nature Conservancy Alabama Office, and Jim Keeler, retired Chief of Wildlife Research with the Alabama Department of Conservation. Chief Keeler was a recipient of the Mosley award in 1987 and nominated the Sargents.

The W. Kelly Mosley Award fund was established by its namesake, a prominent Alabama landowner and timber tycoon. The purpose of the award is to recognize outstanding achievement in Forestry, Wildlife, and Related Resources. The fund is administered by the Auburn University School of Forestry and awards are made by a board appointed for this purpose.

Mr. Keeler said during his presentation, " I nominated the Sargents because of the remarkable work they have done with wintering hummingbirds in Alabama and the surrounding states. Through their efforts we have acquired a wealth of valuable information that we knew very little about before they came on the scene."

In addition to the honor, the Sargents received a $500 grant and a valuable painting to commemorate the occasion.

Congratulations to Bob and Martha and HBSG [Hummingbird Study Group] for an honor well deserved and a job well done!
